1992 has been a memorable year for me as President of the Old Barrovians Association, the highlight of which was the invitation to the Jubilee Festival of Parkview School.

The school has changed dramatically since my day although I was invited into a chemistry laboratory which had not changed since the days of Doug Lewis.

It was an honour on that day to be at the re—dedication of the Honours Boards and to represent the Association.

During my time at Barrow Grammar School I went to live at Tarn Hows Hotel at Hawkshead. This involved a considerable amount of travel and lifts. I was particularly grateful at that time to Ken Lees who was the manager of Barrow Corporation Building Department. He had a maroon Alvis which growled along. I wonder if the car is still in existence?

Despite the distance I was seldom late.

On leaving Barrow Grammar School I attended Blackpool College of Technology and Art to study catering management and after graduating with an H.N.D. in Hotel and Catering Management I have pursued a career in catering ever since.

In 1984 my wife Debbie and I returned to Barrow and bought Arlington House Hotel which we run together.

It has been pleasurable this year meeting so many people at the different events organised by the Old Barrovians Association and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has helped to make it successful.
