Chris Gell 1971

Chris was at school from 1926 to 1934, spanning both the old and new buildings and two well remembered headmasters, F.R. Barnes and W.D. Fraser. He was totally without ability at games, though, with some plodding, managed to get what, in those days, were called his proficiency points for athletics and swimming. With equal plodding he managed to pass on the Matric. and H.S.C. and in October 1934, the year after he became Head Boy he went up to Emmanuel College Cambridge.

He read Parts I and II of the Natural Sciences Tripos and Education, and became a Senior Scholar of Emmanuel in 1935. His interests included rowing and the Presidency of the College Dramatic Society.
