Shipyard boss

A SHIPYARD boss has spoken of her pride after receiving an MBE from the Queen.

Jackie Arnold, was head of strategy at BAE Systems Submarines, and is now corporate responsibility lead. Jackie was revealed as a recipient of the accolade in the Queen's New Year Honours 2018, for services to the Cumbria economy.

The mum-of-three, the vice-chairwoman of the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, travelled to Buckingham Palace to be presented with her medal.  

The former Barrow Girls' Grammar School pupil said she was "astounded, overwhelmed, and extremely honoured and delighted" to learn of the award. 

She ranked it "second only to a happy marriage and raising three wonderful children". 

Mrs Arnold said: "I was incredibly excited. My children accompanied me and I was very proud to know they were there supporting me as I collected my award. 

From 4 April, 2018, Jackie will join the University of Cumbria on a part-time basis as a Professor of Practice. 

Jackie has an outstanding track record in industry and has a passionate belief in the region and a desire to ensure the future growth of the Cumbrian business economy, opening up new opportunities for generations to come.  

Jackie will provide senior executive industrial expertise, supporting the university’s plans to align further to the regional agenda.
