Dave Myers

David James "Dave" Myers (born 8 September 1957) was an English television presenter, best known as one half of the Hairy Bikers along with Si King. Together, they presented a number of television cookery series for the BBC. 

Dave was born in Barrow-in-Furness where his father worked as a foreman in a paper mill. He attended Barrow-in-Furness Grammar School for Boys where he had an inspirational art teacher, Mr. Eaton. He went on to earn a fine art degree at Goldsmiths, University of London and a master's degree in art history.

Myers then became a professional make-up artist, specialising in prosthetics. He is known for his work on Absolon (2003), Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness (2003) and Tale of the Mummy(1998). 

He met Si King in 1995 on the set of a TV drama titled The Gambling Man which was based on a Catherine Cookson novel. King was the second assistant director and Myers was head of prosthetics, hair and make-up on the production. Both sported a tattoo of Che Guevara on their right arm. 

The duo appeared on the BBC's The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook. Their TV shows are a mixture of cookery and travelogue, using a similar format and style to that previously associated with Keith Floyd, including the habit of frequently referring to the cameraman and other crew. 

Most shows feature the pair riding motorbikes, such as the BMW R1200GS, F650GS and Triumph Rocket III. 

The show also features elements of the Two Fat Ladies format, including regular banter between the two stars, use of various unusual cooking locations and the use of motorbikes.

Sadly Dave died from cancer in February 2024. 

This how his lifetime mate Si King broke the news:

"Hi everyone, I’m afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years. Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. I know Dave and his family would want me to thank all of you who sent messages of support in recent times. It meant the world to him, his family and all The Hairy Bikers team. I am sending you all much love and gratitude for those simple acts of kindness, generosity and spirit. We are eternally grateful for them.

May I ask you all for one further kindness and allow Lili, his wife, his family, close friends and I some time and some peace to process our huge loss. I am sure I will see you all soon.
