Miss Jessie Hiller 1942- 1948

Miss Hillier had been a pupil at the school and went on to be a member of staff. She was on the staff list for 1928 as a teacher of Scripture and English, but the first mention of her in the School Magazine was in 1924, when she is mentioned as arranging the exhibition of photographs taken by the girls visiting the British Empire Exhibition.

 

It was the custom of the School Magazine to welcome new members of staff each year. As there is no mention of Miss Hillier in any earlier editions it is clear that she was already on the staff before 1921.

 

Miss Cathcart, who was a pupil at the school between 1932 and 1937, remembered her teaching English, Maths and Scripture and “being able to reduce the most difficult girls to jelly.” Miss Cathcart’s’ mother was at the Higher Grade School at the beginning of the twentieth century and remembered Jessie Hillier as one of the ‘big girls’.
