Stuart Bradley

I was a pupil at BBGS from 1958 until 1965. I learned recently that Wilf Kimber, retired English teacher had died. He would have been more than a little surprised to learn that I'm now fond of reading and also write magazine articles! Another recent discovery is that Dave Hopkins, star of the 12 string guitar in the Folk Club in my day, and successful artist who took the professional name of Clyde Hopkins died a couple of years ago. I also noticed, in the Evening Mail's obituaries last year, the name Steve Hogg and wondered if it was the same chap who was in my year group. 

The only friend from those days I'm still in touch with is Barry Vipond who now lives in Florida. We are both survivors of the 19th Scout Troop attempt to cross the River Duddon from Roanhead to Millom at low tide with Chris King and DAG Garnett in charge. The full story of that escapade has remained a secret ever since.

After qualifying as a Science Teacher at Marjons in Kings Road, Chelsea, during the swinging 60s, I taught for six years and was then recruited by the NUT to serve in various positions, including Regional Officer for Greater London. I took early retirement in 1995 and have since devoted a lot of time to cruising around Europe by boat and motorcaravan. My wife Marjorie and I developed a love of sailing in the 1970s and our current boat is now in Croatia. Marjorie (nee Topping) and I met while in the 6th form and we celebrated 52 years of marriage last August.
